Akande Presents Credentials to Swedish King, Begins Nigeria-Sweden Diplomatic Assignment

Nigeria’s Ambassador to Sweden, Lola Akande, has formally assumed her diplomatic duties after presenting her Letters of Credence to King Carl XVI Gustaf at the Royal Palace in Stockholm.

The ceremony marked Akande’s official accreditation as Nigeria’s representative to Sweden.

She was accorded ceremonial honors in keeping with Swedish diplomatic tradition before presenting her credentials to the monarch.

A reception was later held at the Nigerian House in Stockholm, attended by diplomats, Swedish officials, business representatives and members of the Nigerian community.

The event highlighted opportunities for stronger bilateral cooperation between Nigeria and Sweden.

Areas identified for deeper engagement include trade, investment, innovation, cultural exchange and people-to-people relations.

Akande’s accreditation formally opens her tenure at a time when both countries are seeking broader commercial and institutional engagement.

The Nigerian mission is expected to focus on stronger links between businesses, public institutions and diaspora communities.

The appointment also provides a platform for Nigeria to deepen engagement with Sweden and the wider Nordic region in areas including technology, investment and sustainable development.
