Aiyedatiwa Increases Tertiary Institutions’ Subventions by 60%, Approves FG-Unions Agreement

Ondo State Governor, Lucky Aiyedatiwa, has approved a 60 per cent increase in the monthly subventions to all state-owned tertiary institutions in the state.

The governor also approved the immediate implementation of the agreement reached between the Federal Government and university unions across relevant state-owned tertiary institutions.

The interventions, which take effect this month, are aimed at improving the financial capacity of the institutions, addressing workers’ welfare concerns and strengthening the quality of tertiary education in the state.

According to the state government, the increase in subventions is expected to enable the institutions to meet their financial obligations, ensure prompt payment of salaries and improve the learning environment for students and staff.

The implementation of the Federal Government-unions agreement is also expected to address long-standing welfare issues, improve staff morale and bring the state-owned institutions in line with national standards.

Aiyedatiwa urged the management of the affected institutions to ensure the judicious use of the additional funds, with priority given to workers’ welfare and academic excellence.

The governor also called on the unions to reciprocate the government’s gesture by maintaining industrial harmony and focusing on the delivery of quality education to students.

The state government said the measures were part of the Aiyedatiwa administration’s broader commitment to strengthening tertiary education and making Ondo State a hub for quality higher education.
