Airtel Nigeria has announced the temporary suspension of its airtime and data credit services, which had allowed eligible prepaid customers to borrow airtime or data against their next recharge.
The telecommunications company confirmed in a statement signed by its Director of Corporate Communications and Corporate Social Responsibility, Femi Adeniran, that the suspension was a voluntary compliance measure and not the result of a service disruption. Customers were assured of continued uninterrupted access to airtime and data through all other existing purchase channels, and the company said the temporary pause would not have a material impact on its overall service standards.
Director of Marketing Ismail Adeshina described the move as a responsible step to align Airtel Nigeria’s operations with evolving regulatory requirements, affirming the company’s commitment to compliance, transparency, and consumer protection within Nigeria’s digital ecosystem.
Airtel Nigeria, a subsidiary of Airtel Africa Plc operating across 14 countries in East, Central, and West Africa, said it would provide updates on the status of the suspended service in due course.
