VMO Aero has explained that the Bombardier Challenger CL-601 aircraft involved in an incident near Asaba airport on June 10 executed a missed approach procedure after the flight crew determined that approach parameters during the initial descent did not meet the required limits for a safe landing, repositioned for a second attempt, and subsequently came down on a roadway in the Ogwashi-Uku area.
In a statement signed by Accountable Manager Oluwaseun Ayodeji, the company said the crew’s initial decision to abandon the approach was made in line with established aviation safety procedures and was the correct response to the conditions they encountered. The aircraft involved was on lease from Best Aircraft Deals LLC, a US-based aviation brokerage firm.
VMO Aero confirmed that no persons were injured in the incident, no property was damaged, and the aircraft returned safely to Lagos after the occurrence. The company said it was fully engaged with the Nigerian Safety Investigation Bureau, the Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority, and other relevant regulatory bodies to support a comprehensive review of the events and to implement any corrective measures the investigation identified.
The company said it understood the seriousness with which aviation authorities viewed any occurrence affecting the integrity of flight operations, and expressed regret for any concern caused to the public. It reaffirmed its commitment to safety, regulatory compliance, operational responsibility, and professional accountability throughout the review process.
