Osun State Governor and Accord Party candidate, Ademola Adeleke, has maintained a significant lead over his closest rival, Munirudeen Bola Oyebamiji of the All Progressives Congress (APC), as the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) continues the collation of results from Saturday’s governorship election.
Data published on INEC’s Result Viewing Portal (IReV) as of 2:06 a.m. on Sunday showed that results from 3,612 of the state’s 3,763 polling units had been uploaded, representing 95.99 per cent of all polling units across Osun State.
According to the uploaded results, Adeleke had secured 509,057 votes, accounting for 51.7 per cent of the total votes recorded on the portal. His closest challenger, Oyebamiji, had polled 425,879 votes, representing 43.2 per cent, leaving the APC candidate trailing by more than 80,000 votes.
The candidate of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), Najeem Salaam, was a distant third with 17,393 votes, equivalent to 1.8 per cent of the results available at the time of reporting.
An analysis of the results uploaded to the IReV portal showed Adeleke leading in 21 of Osun State’s 30 Local Government Areas, while Oyebamiji was ahead in the remaining nine LGAs.
Despite the sizable lead, the outcome remains subject to INEC’s official collation and declaration process, with results from 151 polling units yet to be uploaded and verified.
Election observers and political stakeholders continue to monitor the collation exercise closely as INEC works to finalize the process. The electoral commission is expected to announce the official winner of the governorship poll after completing the verification and collation of results from all polling units and local government areas across the state.
With the vast majority of results already uploaded, attention is now focused on the remaining polling units and the commission’s final declaration, which will determine whether Adeleke’s lead translates into victory at the conclusion of the exercise.
