The Imole Campaign Council, representing Osun State Governor Ademola Adeleke, has appealed to the United Kingdom and international observer groups to closely monitor the August 15 governorship election, describing the poll as a test of Nigeria’s democratic credibility ahead of 2027.

Council spokesperson Pelumi Olajengbesi, addressing journalists after submitting a petition to the British High Commission in Abuja, alleged that the Nigeria Police Force in Osun State has become compromised and called for greater international scrutiny to ensure a free and fair vote. He accused the state’s Commissioner of Police of acting in a partisan manner and called on the Inspector General of Police to redeploy neutral officers to the state ahead of the election, alleging that several politically linked attacks in the state have not been properly investigated.

Olajengbesi said the council was not seeking preferential treatment for Adeleke but demanding strict compliance with the Constitution and Electoral Act so residents can freely choose their governor. Separately, the council said the daily influx of All Progressives Congress members defecting to the Accord party reflects growing public support for Adeleke, urging residents to remain resolute against what it described as intimidation tactics by the opposition and to turn out in large numbers to support the governor’s re-election bid.
