Atiku Abubakar’s campaign council says election credibility will depend on impartial administration and practical access to voter cards.
The African Democratic Congress Presidential Campaign Council has called on the Independent National Electoral Commission to demonstrate strict neutrality ahead of the 2027 general election and make Permanent Voter Card collection easier for eligible voters.
In a statement signed by its Director of Media and Publicity, Kola Ologbondiyan, the council warned against any conduct that could create an advantage for the ruling All Progressives Congress. Its concerns were allegations and warnings from the opposition campaign; the statement did not establish that INEC had acted improperly.
The campaign council said registration figures alone would not guarantee participation if voters faced difficulties collecting their cards. It asked the commission to decentralise distribution to ward level, extend collection hours and use technology to inform registrants when cards were ready.
Ologbondiyan alleged that bureaucratic obstacles could particularly disadvantage areas considered sympathetic to opposition parties. He called on INEC to apply the same standards nationwide and adhere strictly to the Constitution and Electoral Act.
The council said its candidate, former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, was prepared to participate in a peaceful, credible election and that the party would monitor the process from voter registration through the announcement of results.
It also urged security agencies to prevent violence and intimidation and said any dispute over electoral conduct should be addressed through lawful means.
The statement did not include a response from INEC or the APC to the council’s allegations. The issues raised concern access, equal treatment and confidence in electoral administration, rather than proof of a particular breach.
