The African Democratic Congress has challenged President Bola Tinubu to apply the same security strategy that secured the rescue of abducted pupils and teachers in Oyo State to rescuing other Nigerians still held captive in Kwara, Borno and other parts of the country.

In a statement, National Publicity Secretary Bolaji Abdullahi said the Oyo rescue should not be treated as a special case but as the standard by which all kidnapping responses are measured, noting that the president had disclosed his administration rejected negotiations with the Oyo kidnappers and instead relied on security operations targeting the kidnappers’ families to secure the victims’ freedom. Abdullahi asked why the same intelligence capacity has not been applied to rescue victims in Kwara and Borno, where families continue to wait without word on their loved ones, arguing that all Nigerian victims deserve equal urgency regardless of where they live.

Separately, the Kogi State Police Command confirmed the death of a Catholic priest, Reverend Father Samuel Opeyemi Oyetoro, whose body was found along the Lokoja-Ajaokuta Highway with severe machete wounds on July 29. Police said the case remains under investigation and efforts are ongoing to identify those responsible, with the priest’s death having thrown the local Catholic community into mourning.
