Managing Director of the Niger Delta Development Commission, Chief Samuel Ogbuku, has described technology as a critical tool for tackling unemployment, urging young Nigerians to acquire digital skills to stay competitive in the global economy.
Ogbuku spoke at the two day Port Harcourt Tech Expo 2026, organized by TechNexus Limited in partnership with the NDDC. He said intellectual property had become the new wealth creation platform, warning that while AI may replace some jobs, it would create opportunities for those prepared.
Stakeholders called for stronger collaboration among government, the private sector, academia and innovators to accelerate digital transformation. The expo, themed “Syntropy,” was supported by Renaissance Africa Energy, Pana Holdings and the Rivers State Internal Revenue Service.
Representing NITDA Director General, Dr. Aristotle Onumo said Nigeria’s digital future depended on inclusive development, digital literacy and public private partnerships. Speakers urged the country to move from consuming technology to producing digital solutions. Zipline Nigeria showcased its drone powered medical logistics system, reporting more than 190,000 deliveries serving over six million patients, while panel sessions covered education technology, cybersecurity, agriculture technology, fintech and the creative economy.
