Ogun State Governor, Prince Dapo Abiodun, has said ongoing and proposed infrastructure projects in Ogun East have the potential to transform the region into a major economic hub and significantly contribute to Nigeria’s economic growth.
Abiodun made the assertion during the investiture of the Ogun State Commissioner for Environment, Hon. Oladimeji Oresanya, as the 19th President of Sagamu Club in Sagamu.
According to the governor, the combined impact of industrial expansion, the Gateway International Airport, road infrastructure development, energy projects and the proposed Gateway Deep Sea Port would boost investment, trade and employment opportunities across the country.
He said the region’s increasing economic relevance had further strengthened calls for the creation of an additional state in the area.
The governor highlighted the proposed Gateway Deep Sea Port and Blue Marine Special Economic Zone in Ogun Waterside as strategic projects capable of enhancing maritime trade, attracting foreign investment and expanding Nigeria’s export potential.
He also pointed to the Gateway International Airport in Iperu as a key asset that would improve connectivity, facilitate cargo movement and support business activities.
Abiodun urged community leaders and stakeholders to complement government efforts through investments in education, youth empowerment and entrepreneurship.
Former Deputy Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria, Mr. Tunde Lemo, who delivered the keynote address, advocated the conversion of Ogere Park into a dry port to further strengthen the region’s logistics and transportation capacity.
Lemo, however, called for stricter environmental management practices along the industrial corridor to prevent pollution and ensure sustainable development.
In his acceptance speech, Oresanya pledged to strengthen the club’s contribution to community development, youth empowerment and social welfare while fostering stronger partnerships with government and private sector stakeholders.
