Ogun State Governor Dapo Abiodun has called for deeper cooperation between government and religious institutions in raising young people with the values, discipline and skills required for responsible leadership.
The governor spoke at the fiftieth anniversary thanksgiving service of the Egba Anglican Diocese at St. Peter’s Cathedral in Abeokuta.
Abiodun said government had a duty to provide infrastructure, education and economic opportunities, while churches and other faith institutions remained important in character formation and the strengthening of families.
He argued that development could not be measured only by roads, buildings and other physical projects.
According to him, investment in human character and responsible citizenship was equally important to the future of society.
Abiodun also warned that advances in technology and artificial intelligence should not weaken human judgement, conscience or moral responsibility.
He reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to religious harmony and peaceful coexistence and said Ogun would continue working with faith communities to promote unity and responsible citizenship.
As part of the anniversary, the governor unveiled a commemorative plaque for the six floor Cathedral Tower.
Anglican Primate Henry Ndukuba, in his sermon, encouraged Christians to respond to service with courage and commitment and praised the Church’s contributions to education and social development.
The Diocese also presented Abiodun with an award recognising his support.
The Alake of Egbaland, Adedotun Aremu Gbadebo, commended the governor’s infrastructure and housing programmes and praised the transformation taking place in parts of the state.
