Kwara State Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq has praised President Bola Tinubu for placing food security, agricultural transformation and citizens’ welfare at the centre of the national development agenda.

The governor spoke in Ilorin during the distribution of relief materials to farmers affected by natural disasters during the previous dry season. The intervention was organised with the National Hydro Electric Power Producing Areas Development Commission.

Represented by the Supervising Commissioner for Agriculture, Olutoyosi Thomas, AbdulRazaq said flooding remained a serious threat to farming communities, destroying crops, disrupting livelihoods and weakening food production.

He described the relief materials as an investment in the resilience of farmers rather than a temporary gesture. The governor said the state had also begun a Special Maize Farm Project targeting 1,000 farmers across the 16 local government areas with hybrid seeds, agricultural inputs and technical support.

AbdulRazaq urged beneficiaries to use the assistance productively and thanked the President, the commission and other stakeholders for supporting affected communities.

The Managing Director of the commission, Abubakar Sadiq Yelwa, said N100 million had been provided to assist Kwara farmers affected by dry season flooding. He explained that the intervention fulfilled an earlier promise to support those who lost farmland and crops.

Yelwa also commended the state government for distributing hybrid maize seeds, including to farmers in the five local government areas covered by the commission. He said the combined programmes would increase production, create wealth and improve the livelihoods of farming households.
