US rapper Offset has been hospitalised after being shot near a casino in Florida, authorities and his representative have confirmed.
The artist, whose real name is Kiari Kendrell Cephus, was injured on Monday evening during an incident outside the Seminole Hard Rock Hotel and Casino in Hollywood, Florida. His representative said he is currently in stable condition and receiving medical care.
According to the Seminole Police Department, the shooting occurred shortly after 7 p.m. in the valet area of the casino following a reported altercation. While police did not officially identify the victim, they confirmed that the individual was transported to Memorial Regional Hospital with injuries that were not considered life-threatening.
Authorities said the situation has since been contained, with no ongoing threat to the public. “The site is secure and operations continue as normal,” police stated.
In connection with the incident, a suspect identified as Tione Jayden Merritt has been arrested and charged with disorderly conduct. He was taken into custody and booked into Broward County Jail, while investigations continue to determine whether additional individuals were involved.
Offset, a former member of the rap group Migos, rose to global prominence with the trio’s chart-topping hits. The group was shaken by tragedy in 2022 following the fatal shooting of fellow member Takeoff.
He was previously married to Cardi B, with whom he shares three children.
Police say investigations into the circumstances surrounding the shooting are ongoing, with further updates expected as more details emerge.
