The Kano State chapter of the Arewa APC Forum has announced its withdrawal of support for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu ahead of the 2027 general elections, citing concerns over governance, leadership direction, and national cohesion.
In a statement dated April 17, 2026, the group said its decision followed what it described as “extensive consultations and careful reflection” on the performance of the current administration at the federal level.
The forum expressed dissatisfaction with the state of governance, alleging issues of nepotism, incompetence, and corruption, which it said have undermined public confidence in leadership.
“We believe that leadership must inspire confidence, uphold fairness, and demonstrate a sincere commitment to national unity, institutional integrity, and responsible governance,” the statement read.
It added that continued silence in the face of perceived shortcomings would amount to complicity, stressing that the group could no longer, “in good conscience,” maintain its support for the administration.
The forum further declared that it had withdrawn its confidence in the current political direction, calling on its members and supporters across the region to align with its new position in future political engagements.
The statement was signed by Sallah Hakilu Kibiya, chairman of the Arewa APC Forum in Kano State.
Political observers say the development may signal emerging cracks within the support base of the All Progressives Congress, particularly in northern Nigeria, where the ruling party has traditionally enjoyed strong backing.
The move comes at a time when political alignments are gradually taking shape ahead of the next electoral cycle, with growing scrutiny of governance and increasing calls for accountability expected to influence voter sentiment.
While the presidency has yet to officially respond to the statement, analysts note that such developments could have broader implications for intra-party dynamics and electoral strategy as the 2027 elections approach.
