Atletico Madrid secured a place in the UEFA Champions League semi-finals after holding off a determined comeback from FC Barcelona to progress on aggregate.
Barcelona, who trailed 2-0 from the first leg, made a fast start at home. Lamine Yamal pulled a goal back within five minutes, capitalising on an error by Clement Lenglet to finish past goalkeeper Juan Musso.
The hosts continued their early dominance as Ferran Torres levelled the tie on aggregate in the 19th minute, firing a left-footed effort into the top corner after being set up by Dani Olmo.
However, Atletico responded swiftly to regain control. Marcos Llorente led a counterattack down the right flank before assisting Ademola Lookman, who restored Atletico’s aggregate advantage.
Barcelona pushed for a decisive goal, but Musso produced a key save to deny Fermin Lopez from close range. Torres also saw a goal ruled out for offside following a VAR review early in the second half.
The match tilted further in Atletico’s favour when Barcelona were reduced to 10 men, with Eric Garcia sent off after bringing down Alexander Sorloth while chasing a through ball.
Despite late pressure, including headed attempts from Robert Lewandowski and Ronald Araujo, Barcelona were unable to complete the comeback.
Atletico Madrid advance to the semi-finals, where they will face either Arsenal FC or Sporting CP as they continue their pursuit of a first Champions League final appearance since 2016.
