Tinubu Reflects on Leadership and 2027 Ambitions During Prayers in Makkah

President Bola Tinubu has described political authority as a responsibility entrusted by God, saying his visit to the Holy Ka’abah in Makkah strengthened his resolve to serve Nigeria and pursue national development.

Speaking after performing Umrah during a five day visit to Saudi Arabia, Tinubu said he prayed for wisdom, resilience and the strength to continue discharging his responsibilities. He recalled undertaking a similar pilgrimage before the 2023 presidential election and returning to express gratitude. His remarks also touched on the uncertainty of political power as Nigeria approaches another election cycle.

The president said he was granted access to pray inside the Ka’abah, a privilege for which he thanked Saudi Arabia’s King Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud and Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman. He described the experience as spiritually significant and reflective of the relationship between the two countries. The delegation included governors, senior ministers and business leaders.

Tinubu reiterated his commitment to what he called Project Nigeria, promising continued investment in young people, economic opportunities and national prosperity. He argued that the country had made progress through difficult economic conditions and that leaders should be judged by the opportunities they create for future generations.

In a separate social media message, the president said he had prayed for peace, unity and prosperity for Nigerians. His optimistic assessment of the economy remains a political position that can be evaluated against independent data on prices, jobs, incomes and public debt.
