The Nigeria Centre for Disease Control and Prevention (NCDC) has identified two suspected cases of Ebola disease in the North-East region, with both individuals isolated as laboratory investigations continue.
The agency disclosed this in an Ebola response update issued on Saturday, October 31, 2026, noting that contact tracing had commenced to identify people who might have been exposed to the suspected cases.
According to the NCDC, laboratory tests are being conducted to determine whether the two individuals have contracted the disease.
“Two suspected cases of Ebola disease have been identified in Nigeria’s North-East region. Both individuals have been isolated, contact tracing is ongoing, and laboratory testing is being conducted,” the agency stated.
However, the NCDC did not disclose the specific states where the suspected cases were detected or provide details about the individuals’ ages, travel histories or possible sources of exposure.
The agency also did not indicate the total number of suspected cases recorded nationwide or when the laboratory results would be available.
It emphasised that the two cases remain suspected and have not been confirmed through laboratory testing.
The development comes amid increased attention to Ebola surveillance and preparedness, as health authorities work to ensure early detection and prevent possible transmission.
The NCDC advised Nigerians to maintain good personal hygiene, improve sanitation practices and comply with public health guidance.
“The public is advised to maintain good hand hygiene, practise enhanced sanitation and follow guidance from public health authorities,” it said.
The agency assured the public that further updates would be provided as investigations progress and verified information becomes available.
“Further updates will be provided as more verified information becomes available,” the statement added.
The NCDC has not announced any additional containment measures or movement restrictions in connection with the two suspected cases.
