The Nigerians in Diaspora Commission has urged stronger partnerships between accomplished Nigerians abroad and institutions at home, arguing that international professional success should translate into practical benefits for national development.
Commission chairperson Abike Dabiri-Erewa highlighted achievements across medicine, public health, business, academia and public service. Those recognized included Zainab Shinkafi-Bagudu in international cancer advocacy, Ibrahim Abubakar in epidemic preparedness and Bolu Ogunyemi in Canadian medical leadership.
She also cited Nigerian professionals working in corporate strategy, specialist healthcare, public administration and student leadership, saying their networks and expertise could support domestic research, mentoring and investment.
Dabiri-Erewa linked the appeal to the government’s foreign policy emphasis on development, democracy, demography and diaspora. She said cooperation should extend beyond remittances to include professional exchanges, training and stronger institutional ties.
For the initiative to have measurable impact, Nigerian institutions will need structured partnerships, defined priorities and mechanisms to track outcomes. The supplied list of appointments and professional titles should be checked with the relevant organizations before publication.
