Kwankwaso Rejects ADC Alliance, Insists NDC Will Contest 2027 Presidential Election

Vice-presidential candidate of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), Senator Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, has ruled out any possibility of withdrawing from the 2027 presidential election in favour of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) or any other political party.

Kwankwaso, who is running alongside former Anambra State governor Peter Obi, said the NDC remains committed to contesting the election and has no plans to surrender its presidential ticket.

In a statement addressing recent tensions between opposition camps, the former Kano State governor criticised what he described as unwarranted attacks by the ADC Presidential Campaign Council against him, Obi and the NDC.

“The attacks directed at me, our presidential candidate, His Excellency Peter Obi, and our party, the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), are unnecessary and unhelpful,” he said.

Kwankwaso accused the ADC campaign organisation of diverting attention from promoting its own candidate by speculating about the NDC’s political intentions and possible withdrawal from the race.

“Rather than focusing on presenting the competence, credibility and capacity of their own candidate, as we have consistently done by placing our credentials and record of achievements before Nigerians, the ADC Presidential Campaign Council appears intent on creating mischief against our party and ticket,” he stated.

The NDC vice-presidential candidate emphatically denied claims that the party would withdraw in favour of any opposition platform.

“Let me state clearly and unequivocally: we will not withdraw our candidature for the ADC or any other party. We remain confident in our capacity, competence and readiness to lead Nigeria,” he said.

Kwankwaso also cautioned supporters against misinformation, insisting that neither he nor Obi was working for the APC or negotiating any arrangement to abandon the race.

He further argued that both the APC and ADC had failed to present the kind of alternative Nigerians require, describing the Obi-Kwankwaso ticket as a credible option capable of tackling national challenges.

“We believe the OK ticket is a healing ticket committed to uniting our country and tackling critical challenges in security, education, agriculture, infrastructure, healthcare, the economy and other key sectors,” he added.
