Anambra APC Supporters Reject Soludo Alliance Formula, Demand Straight-Ticket Voting

A group of All Progressives Congress supporters in the South-East has rejected suggestions that President Bola Tinubu’s re-election campaign should be paired with support for All Progressives Grand Alliance candidates in Anambra State.

The position emerged at a rally in Awka organized by APC figure Sir Paul Chukwuma, identified in the supplied account as a deputy coordinator of the party’s presidential campaign council in the South-East. Speakers called for votes for APC candidates at every level of the 2027 elections.

Their objections followed reports that Governor Chukwuma Soludo had been listed as Anambra coordinator of Tinubu’s presidential campaign and had referred to an understanding under which APGA would retain support for other offices. The exact terms and official status of any agreement were not established in the material provided.

Chukwuma dismissed the “progressives working together” formulation as misleading and insisted that APC members should campaign for the president and their own party’s legislative candidates.

Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives Benjamin Kalu and Anambra Central APC senatorial candidate Uche Ekwunife were among the political figures reported to have addressed the gathering. Kalu predicted strong support for Tinubu in the five South-East states and urged APC members to strengthen their organization.

The disagreement highlights a strategic tension within the governing party’s regional campaign: whether cross-party arrangements that could benefit its presidential candidate should also extend to contests for state and federal legislative seats.

As parties prepare for the elections, any formal campaign partnership and candidate endorsements will require confirmation from the relevant party organs. The rally nevertheless demonstrated resistance among some APC supporters to an electoral arrangement they believe could weaken their own candidates.
