INEC Chair Assures Nigerians of Improved Logistics Ahead of 2027 General Election

Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), Professor Joash Amupitan, has assured Nigerians that no eligible voter will be disenfranchised because of the late arrival of election materials during the 2027 general election.

Amupitan gave the assurance in Abuja during the inauguration of the Electoral Logistics Committee (ELOC), established to coordinate logistics preparations for the polls.

He described logistics as one of the most critical aspects of election management and said the commission was adopting a proactive approach to ensure efficient and timely deployment of personnel and materials nationwide.

“Today’s inauguration of the Electoral Logistics Committee marks a proactive step in ensuring that the 2027 general election is defined by seamless execution and operational excellence,” he said.

According to him, the committee will assess logistics requirements, develop distribution plans for election materials, audit the readiness of warehouses and transport infrastructure, and identify potential risks to election operations.

Amupitan noted that the movement of election materials across Nigeria’s vast terrain required collaboration among multiple agencies, adding that the success and credibility of elections depend significantly on effective logistics management.

Rear Admiral Jamila Malafa (rtd), a National Commissioner, was named chairperson of the committee.

Meanwhile, the INEC chairman also called on the National Orientation Agency (NOA) to intensify voter education campaigns against voter apathy, vote buying and electoral violence ahead of the elections.

Speaking at the launch of the NOA Nationwide Grassroots Mobilisation Campaign, Amupitan urged field officers to take civic education to communities across the country.

NOA Director-General, Mallam Lanre Issa-Onilu, warned that voter apathy weakens democratic participation and called on Nigerians to reject electoral violence and inducements.
