The Presidential Enabling Business Environment Council (PEBEC) has engaged the National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) on regulatory activities, operational challenges and measures aimed at improving Nigeria’s business environment.
The discussion took place during a working visit by the Director-General of PEBEC, Princess Zahrah Mustapha Audu, to the Director-General of NAFDAC, Prof. Mojisola Adeyeye, at the agency’s corporate headquarters in Abuja.
According to a statement, the meeting focused on recent public concerns regarding NAFDAC’s operations, the agency’s achievements in key regulatory areas and challenges affecting its mandate.
Both agencies reviewed issues relating to food safety, product registration and regulation, support for micro, small and medium-sized enterprises (MSMEs), pesticides and agrochemicals, post-marketing surveillance, investigation and enforcement activities, as well as import and export trade facilitation.
A major aspect of the engagement centred on concerns surrounding Free Trade Zones and the auctioning of containers delayed at the nation’s ports.
The discussions highlighted the need to address regulatory bottlenecks that could hinder business operations while ensuring compliance with safety and quality standards.
PEBEC and NAFDAC also explored ways of strengthening collaboration to promote a more efficient regulatory environment that supports business growth, investment and trade facilitation.
The meeting forms part of ongoing efforts by PEBEC to engage key regulatory agencies and stakeholders in improving the ease of doing business in Nigeria while balancing regulatory oversight with economic development objectives.
