Obi Media Office Challenges APC to Defend Tinubu’s Record on Cost of Living and Security

Peter Obi’s media office has accused the ruling All Progressives Congress of focusing on disputes over the 2023 presidential election instead of addressing the economic and security concerns of Nigerians.

The criticism followed comments attributed to APC presidential campaign council spokesperson Dele Alake, who questioned Obi’s continued assertion that he won the 2023 election and said such claims should be supported by evidence.

In a response issued through spokesperson Idris Zekeri, Obi’s media office argued that the central question was what President Bola Tinubu’s administration had delivered since taking office. It said Nigerians were entitled to assess the impact of government policies on household finances, public safety and economic opportunity.

Zekeri acknowledged that the courts had upheld the officially declared result of the 2023 presidential election, but maintained that judicial confirmation of an electoral outcome did not remove the government’s obligation to answer questions about performance.

The statement criticized the administration over rising living costs, poverty and insecurity, presenting these as evidence, in the opposition’s view, that ordinary citizens had yet to experience the benefits promised by the government. These assessments are political claims made by Obi’s media office.

Zekeri said the ruling party should explain what measurable relief its policies had brought to households and businesses rather than devote its attention to attacking an opposition figure.

He argued that political success should ultimately be judged by improvements people experience in their communities, workplaces and homes, not simply by a party’s ability to secure and defend an electoral victory.

The exchange reflects the increasingly sharp debate over governance and accountability ahead of the 2027 presidential contest.
