The disease control agency says no case has been confirmed in Nigeria and urges travelers to report symptoms and exposure promptly.
The Nigeria Centre for Disease Control and Prevention says it is reviewing the country’s Ebola preparedness following a reported imported case in Kenya linked to an outbreak in the Democratic Republic of Congo.
In a statement dated October 6, 2026, Director-General Jide Idris said Nigeria had no confirmed Ebola case as of that date. The agency was nonetheless reassessing importation risks associated with travel and cross-border movement.
According to the NCDC account, the case involved a Kenyan national who had lived in the Democratic Republic of Congo during an outbreak attributed to Bundibugyo virus. The person reportedly travelled by road through Uganda before flying to Nairobi, where the infection was identified. The agency said the patient later died and Kenyan authorities began tracing contacts.
These case details are drawn from the NCDC statement supplied for this report and have not been independently verified here against Kenyan or World Health Organization updates.
Idris said the NCDC had been monitoring the outbreak with the Federal Ministry of Health and Social Welfare, Port Health Services, state governments and development partners. Preparedness measures would be strengthened as the risk assessment evolved, he added.
The agency advised Nigerians to wash their hands regularly, avoid contact with the blood or bodily fluids of sick people and avoid touching the bodies of those who died from unexplained illnesses. It also cautioned against handling sick or dead wild animals and eating raw or inadequately cooked bushmeat.
People who develop symptoms after visiting affected areas or having contact with a suspected or confirmed case were urged to seek medical attention promptly and disclose relevant travel or exposure history to healthcare workers.
The NCDC asked the public to rely on official health communications rather than unverified social media claims. Its statement did not announce an Ebola outbreak in Nigeria.
