Kebbi State Governor Nasir Idris has announced plans to establish a military base in Bagudo Local Government Area as his administration intensifies efforts to contain bandit attacks and restore security to affected communities.
The announcement followed recent attacks in communities across the area that resulted in deaths and forced some residents from their homes.
Idris disclosed the plan during a condolence visit to the District Head of Kaoje, Mustapha Usman, following the death of the Village Head of Lafagu and other victims.
The governor described the attacks as unacceptable and said the state government was working with security agencies to strengthen operations against armed groups operating in the area.
He said protecting residents and enabling displaced families to return to their communities remained a priority for his administration.
“I am not going to relent in ensuring that my people are protected,” Idris said.
The governor also visited camps accommodating internally displaced residents and assured victims that the government would continue providing support while security operations were intensified.
Idris said arrangements were being made to find a more lasting solution to the insecurity affecting the communities.
He urged residents not to resort to self help or retaliation, calling instead for greater cooperation with security agencies.
The governor particularly encouraged residents to provide credible and timely information about suspicious movements and activities that could assist security operations.
District Head of Kaoje, Mustapha Usman Adamu, thanked the governor for visiting the affected communities and responding to their security concerns.
He condemned the attacks and appealed for sustained government intervention to protect residents.
The proposed military base is expected to strengthen the security presence in Bagudo and improve response capacity as authorities attempt to prevent further attacks and create conditions for displaced residents to return home.
