The Chairman of the Nigerian Exchange Group (NGX), Dr. Umaru Kwairanga, has urged global investors to take advantage of investment opportunities in Nigeria, stating that the country’s risk profile has improved significantly while investment returns remain among the most attractive globally.
Kwairanga spoke at the Nigeria Investment Forum held on the sidelines of the 81st United Nations General Assembly (UNGA 81) in New York, where he presented Nigeria’s investment prospects to an international audience.
According to him, recent economic reforms implemented by the Federal Government, including fuel subsidy removal, exchange rate unification, monetary policy adjustments and tax reforms, have strengthened Nigeria’s macroeconomic outlook and improved the business environment.
He noted that the reforms have positively impacted the capital market, which has recorded sustained double-digit growth since 2023.
The NGX chairman said Nigeria’s abundant natural resources, vast agricultural potential and youthful population position the country as a major economic growth destination in the 21st century.
He highlighted recent achievements of the exchange, including increased market capitalisation, higher trading volumes, the onboarding of millions of investors through digital platforms and the successful listing of new companies.
Kwairanga specifically cited the ongoing Dangote Refinery Initial Public Offer (IPO) as a landmark transaction that is setting new records for capital raising and investor participation across Africa.
He reiterated NGX’s commitment to strengthening investor confidence through sound regulation, transparency, market integrity and efficient trading infrastructure.
The chairman further invited foreign and local investors to explore opportunities in infrastructure, solid minerals, agriculture, fintech, tourism and other growth sectors through the Nigerian capital market.
