Tinubu Celebrates King Sunny Ade at 80, Hails His Legacy as Global Cultural Ambassador

President Bola Tinubu has paid glowing tribute to legendary Nigerian musician and Juju maestro, Chief Sunday Adeniyi Adegeye, popularly known as King Sunny Ade, as he marks his 80th birthday.

In a heartfelt message issued on the occasion of the music icon’s milestone celebration, Tinubu praised King Sunny Ade for his immense contributions to the Nigerian music industry and his role in projecting African culture to the global stage.

The President described the veteran entertainer as a symbol of musical excellence and cultural ambassadorship whose career has inspired generations and brought pride to Nigeria.

“Today, I warmly celebrate Chief Sunday Adeniyi Adegeye, the legendary King Sunny Ade and an icon of Nigerian and African music, on his 80th birthday,” Tinubu said.

Tinubu commended the Juju music legend for transforming the genre into a globally recognized cultural treasure through his exceptional talent, creativity, discipline and unwavering passion for music.

He noted that King Sunny Ade’s unique blend of traditional African sounds, including the use of guitars, talking drums and other indigenous instruments, helped establish him as one of Africa’s most celebrated entertainers.

“Through your extraordinary talent, creativity, discipline and enduring passion, you transformed juju music into a globally recognised Nigerian cultural treasure,” the President stated.

“As one of Africa’s most celebrated entertainers, you have brought the richness of our culture to audiences worldwide.”

The President further highlighted the musician’s distinctive sound, captivating dance performances and innovative approach to music, which earned him a place among the continent’s most influential cultural figures.

Beyond his musical achievements, Tinubu applauded King Sunny Ade for serving as a proud ambassador of Nigeria, demonstrating that the country’s rich cultural heritage can transcend borders and connect with people across the world.

According to the President, the octogenarian’s contributions have not only entertained millions but have also helped preserve Nigeria’s cultural identity and showcase its diversity to international audiences.

“Your remarkable contributions to the Nigerian creative industry have inspired generations of musicians and practitioners.
