Veteran Nollywood Icon Olu Jacobs Dies at 84

Veteran Nigerian actor, Oludotun Baiyewu Jacobs, popularly known as Olu Jacobs, has died at the age of 84.

His death was announced by his son, Olusoji Jacobs, in an Instagram post on Wednesday, September 16, 2026, bringing to a close a remarkable career that spanned decades in Nigeria’s theatre, television and film industries.

In the emotional tribute, Olusoji described his father as a cherished family man and a towering figure in the entertainment industry.

“It is with gratitude to God for a life well lived and fought that we announce the passing of our dear husband, father, grandfather, and uncle. The Lion of Lufodo,” he wrote.

The family also appealed for privacy as they mourn the loss of the veteran actor.

“We call on all bloggers and social media influencers to respect our family’s privacy at this time,” Olusoji added.

Olu Jacobs was widely regarded as one of Nigeria’s most influential and respected actors. Renowned for his commanding screen presence and versatility, he built a distinguished career across stage productions, television dramas and blockbuster films, earning admiration from audiences and colleagues alike.

Over the years, his contributions helped shape Nigeria’s entertainment industry, making him a role model for generations of actors and filmmakers. His performances and dedication to the craft earned him numerous accolades and cemented his status as one of Nollywood’s most celebrated icons.

He is survived by his wife, actress Joke Silva, their children, grandchildren and other family members.
