Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, has pledged to campaign across Nigeria for the re-election of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu in the 2027 presidential election.
Sanwo-Olu made the commitment on Sunday at an interfaith prayer session organised by the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Lagos as part of preparations for the 2027 elections.
The gathering brought together Christian, Muslim and traditional religious leaders who offered prayers for the success of APC candidates and a peaceful electoral process.
Describing the event as a spiritual launch of the party’s mobilisation for the 2027 elections, Sanwo-Olu said he would make himself available to campaign for Tinubu and other APC candidates across the 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory.
“I will make myself available to ensure that I go on the presidential campaign for Mr. President and all of us that are in that. That is what the wish of Lagos is. That is what the wish of Nigeria is. And that is what the wish of God is,” he said.
The governor said Tinubu’s re-election was important to Lagos and Nigeria, stressing that the presidential campaign should receive sustained attention throughout the electioneering period.
He said the prayer session was intended to commit the party’s campaign and electoral activities to God, while emphasising that the APC would not take voters, stakeholders or the 2027 elections for granted.
Sanwo-Olu also expressed confidence in the party’s prospects in Lagos, particularly the candidacy of his deputy, Obafemi Hamzat, who is seeking to succeed him as governor.
He urged party members to complement their prayers with hard work and effective grassroots mobilisation to secure victory for Hamzat and other APC candidates contesting National Assembly and state House of Assembly seats.
Hamzat, in his remarks, appreciated the Christian, Muslim and traditional leaders for their prayers, saying the gathering was organised to commit Nigeria, Lagos State, the APC, its leaders and candidates into the hands of God ahead of the elections.
He prayed for President Tinubu, First Lady Oluremi Tinubu, Governor Sanwo-Olu and his wife, Ibijoke Sanwo-Olu, as well as other APC candidates.
Hamzat also prayed for a peaceful and violence-free electoral process, stressing that no party member or voter should lose his or her life during the 2027 elections.
