INEC Unveils Real-Time Election Readiness Tracker ahead of 2027 Polls

The Independent National Electoral Commission says it will deploy Nigeria’s first real-time election-readiness tracker to monitor preparations across all 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory ahead of the 2027 general election.

INEC Chairman Joash Amupitan announced the initiative at a two-day strategic operational workshop for Administrative Secretaries in Lagos.

The commission said the workshop would produce a standardised Administrative Secretary Master Operational Tracker linked to INEC’s Election Monitoring and Support Centre dashboard and Election Project Plan.

Amupitan said the new tool was intended to give Resident Electoral Commissioners, supervising national commissioners, the commission’s secretary and headquarters immediate visibility into logistics, distribution of materials, ad hoc staff training and state-level preparedness.

He said INEC historically lacked a uniform tool dedicated to tracking the operational responsibilities of Administrative Secretaries.

The commission expects the system to replace last-minute crisis management with earlier identification of gaps.

Amupitan said the tracker would also become a permanent administrative tool beyond the 2027 election cycle.

He linked it to wider operational priorities including Continuous Voter Registration, logistics, electoral technology, ad hoc staff management and financial compliance.

INEC said voter registration was approaching 100 million and argued that stronger data and monitoring systems were necessary to keep the register credible and PVC collection efficient. The commission said lessons from recent off-cycle elections would be used to improve national preparation during the remaining months before the 2027 polls
