President Bola Tinubu has called for a stronger culture of public service in Nigeria, saying the country needs leaders whose commitment to national development rises above personal ambition and self-interest.
Tinubu made the remarks at a thanksgiving service marking the 70th birthday of former Secretary to the Government of the Federation Boss Mustapha at St. Monica Cathedral of the Lutheran Church of Christ in Nigeria in Jimeta, Adamawa State.
The President was represented by Secretary to the Government of the Federation George Akume.
Tinubu said public officials and citizens should embrace service to the wider society as a core national value.
He described Mustapha’s 70th birthday as an opportunity to celebrate a life of public contribution and faith.
Plateau State Governor Caleb Mutfwang also praised Mustapha, describing him as an example of integrity in public service.
Mutfwang commended the former SGF for marking the milestone with an investment in education rather than personal celebration.
Mustapha formally handed over a library complex he donated to Lutheran University Nigeria in Demsa, Adamawa State.
The facility was named the Wesley Mustapha Library Complex in honour of his late father, who was a teacher.
Mustapha urged young Nigerians not to allow modest backgrounds to limit their ambitions.
He said his own journey demonstrated that children from ordinary families could rise to positions of responsibility through education, discipline and determination.
Archbishop Musa Panti Filibus of the Lutheran Church of Christ in Nigeria described the donation as an enduring contribution to higher education.
Adamawa State Governor Ahmadu Fintiri said the library would serve generations of students and researchers.
The event combined a celebration of Mustapha’s career with a broader call for leadership grounded in service, education and public responsibility.
