Shettima Departs Abuja for AU Summit in Angola

Vice President Kashim Shettima has departed Abuja for Luanda, Angola, where he will represent President Bola Ahmed Tinubu at the 21st Extraordinary Session of the Assembly of Heads of State and Government of the African Union (AU).

The high-level summit is expected to focus on strategies for conflict resolution, conflict prevention and the promotion of lasting peace and stability across Africa.

Shettima will join other African leaders and key stakeholders in deliberations on practical approaches to addressing the continent’s growing security challenges and strengthening mechanisms for resolving conflicts.

Nigeria is expected to contribute to discussions on enhancing continental frameworks for preventing conflicts, resolving disputes and sustaining peace, in line with its longstanding role in peacebuilding and conflict resolution across Africa.

The Vice President, who is accompanied by senior defence and security officials, will deliver President Tinubu’s address at the summit and present Nigeria’s position on the issues under consideration.

Shettima is also expected to reaffirm Nigeria’s commitment to strengthening collective African efforts towards peace, security and stability.

The Vice President will return to Nigeria after concluding his official engagements in Angola.
