Military Says Airstrikes Hit Terrorist Enclaves in Borno and Kill Scores

The Nigerian military says air operations against suspected terrorist positions in Borno State have killed dozens of fighters and disrupted attempts by armed groups to regroup.

Operation Hadin Kai said the strikes were carried out around the Aduwa axis in Monguno Local Government Area and in the Buratai area of Biu Local Government Area.

Acting Military Information Officer Mohammed Goni said the operations followed intelligence and surveillance missions that identified suspected terrorist movements and concentrations.

According to the military, one surveillance aircraft tracked fighters in the Monguno area before a precision strike was authorized.

A subsequent assessment indicated that about 16 suspected terrorists were killed.

The military said another group attempting to regroup away from the first location was then engaged, with about 10 fighters reportedly killed.

In a separate operation near Buratai, another strike was said to have hit a gathering of suspected terrorists.

The military put the number killed in that engagement at about 10.

The casualty figures are based on military battle damage assessments and have not been independently verified.

Operation Hadin Kai said the strikes demonstrated the increasing use of intelligence, surveillance and reconnaissance technology to locate armed groups before they could attack troops or communities.

The military said pressure on terrorist networks was also intended to disrupt logistics, command structures and freedom of movement.

It added that military action was being combined with community engagement, strategic communication, humanitarian coordination and efforts encouraging fighters and associates to surrender.

Security authorities have reported increasing surrenders in recent weeks, attributing some of them to hunger, insecurity and disputes within militant groups.

The military urged residents to continue providing timely information about suspicious movement.

Operations remain focused on reducing the ability of terrorist organizations to establish safe areas or regroup across the North East.
