IPMAN Urges Dangote Refinery to Expand Direct Fuel Deliveries to Northern States

The Independent Petroleum Marketers Association of Nigeria has urged Dangote Petroleum Refinery to expand direct fuel deliveries to additional states, particularly in northern Nigeria, as part of efforts to reduce regional differences in pump prices.

IPMAN National Publicity Secretary Chinedu Ukadike said wider direct distribution could lower logistics costs and make petroleum products more affordable for marketers and consumers.

He commended the refinery for extending its distribution scheme to Imo, Anambra and other states.

Ukadike said independent marketers had previously faced delays after paying for products, leaving capital tied up for days or weeks while they waited for loading.

He argued that direct delivery closer to marketers’ locations could improve cash flow and reduce the time between payment and retail sales.

The arrangement could also reduce risks and expenses associated with long distance haulage.

IPMAN said those savings were already contributing to lower retail prices in some locations.

Ukadike called for the model to be extended further across the country.

He said northern states in particular could benefit because transport distances from coastal depots and refineries often contribute significantly to pump prices.

The association argued that a broader distribution network could help narrow regional price differences.

Any move toward more uniform pricing would still depend on transport costs, market conditions, competition, taxes and other factors beyond refinery delivery arrangements. IPMAN nevertheless said expanding direct supply could reduce some of the logistics pressures faced by independent marketers
