Fubara Opens 105 Bed Omoku Zonal Hospital to Expand Healthcare in Rivers West

Rivers State Governor Siminalayi Fubara has inaugurated the remodelled and fully equipped 105 bed Omoku Zonal Hospital in Ogba Egbema Ndoni Local Government Area.

The governor said the facility formed part of his administration’s effort to expand access to quality secondary healthcare across Rivers State.

Fubara said good health remained one of the most important assets available to citizens and described healthcare provision as a fundamental responsibility of government.

The hospital is expected to serve residents of Omoku as well as communities in Egbema, Ndoni, Ahoada and other parts of Rivers West Senatorial District.

Fubara urged traditional rulers, community leaders and young people to protect the hospital and its equipment from vandalism or theft.

He said the location was particularly important because Omoku serves as a major oil and gas centre.

The governor said increasing commercial activity in the area required a stronger healthcare system capable of responding to population growth and industrial demands.

The Oba of Ogbaland, Nwachukwu Nnam Obuoha Obi III, praised the administration for completing the facility.

He also cited the Elele Omoku dual carriageway and Ahoada Egbema Road as examples of government projects in the area.

Rivers State Ministry of Health Permanent Secretary Vincent Wachukwu said the three storey hospital would serve as a referral centre for healthcare facilities across Rivers West.

He said patient attendance in Ogba Egbema Ndoni had increased significantly over the previous three years.

The hospital includes outpatient clinics, a pharmacy, accident and emergency services, surgical theatres, laboratories, intensive care and newborn intensive care units.

It also provides paediatric, obstetric, gynaecological and radiology services as well as private wards.

Supporting infrastructure includes a laundry, mortuary, kitchen, cafeteria, recreational garden, staff accommodation and parking.

The facility has dedicated transformer, generator and solar power systems.

Government said the hospital would also support clinical training and professional development while improving maternal, newborn and child health outcomes in the Orashi area.
