The Peoples Democratic Party has accused the All Progressives Congress of promoting dangerous political rhetoric in Osun State and called for an investigation into statements linked to Senator Francis Fadahunsi.
The opposition party cited a viral video in which Fadahunsi was reported to have made remarks that it interpreted as encouraging violence.
The PDP said election campaigns should not be treated as warfare and warned that inflammatory language could heighten tension before voting.
It also linked the controversy to previous political statements from leading APC figures that the party described as confrontational.
The PDP argued that elections should give citizens an opportunity to choose leaders freely rather than expose them to intimidation or threats.
It called for a transparent investigation into the Fadahunsi video and other reported threats to peaceful elections in Osun.
The party also urged political leaders across the country to reduce aggressive language and place greater emphasis on civility.
Fadahunsi has separately disputed the interpretation of the video, saying his comments were taken out of context and that his intention was to condemn attacks and warn against retaliation.
The competing accounts underline the heightened political tension around the Osun governorship election.
The PDP said all parties and public officials should ensure that the final result reflects the freely expressed choice of voters.
