First Lady Oluremi Tinubu has urged Nigerian youths to remain focused, hardworking and committed to achieving their dreams, while calling for greater efforts to create opportunities that will enable them to realise their full potential.
The First Lady made the call in her message to mark the 2026 International Youth Day, observed globally on August 12.
Reflecting on this year’s theme, “Different Contexts, Common Aspirations,” Mrs Tinubu noted that young people across the world may come from different backgrounds and circumstances but share common aspirations, including access to quality education, meaningful employment, equal opportunities and a sustainable future.
She encouraged Nigerian youths to harness education, innovation, entrepreneurship and active citizenship as tools for personal development and national transformation.
“I encourage our youth to remain focused and hardworking. Use education, innovation, entrepreneurship, and active citizenship to pursue your dreams, fulfil your potential, and help build a more peaceful and prosperous Nigeria,” she said.
The First Lady also called on government, private organisations, civil society groups and other stakeholders to renew their commitment to empowering young Nigerians by creating an enabling environment for them to contribute meaningfully to national development.
“As we commemorate this day, let us renew our commitment to supporting and empowering young people by creating opportunities for them to realise their full potential,” she added.
International Youth Day is commemorated annually on August 12 by the United Nations to recognise young people as important partners in socio-economic development and to draw attention to issues affecting youths around the world.
Mrs Tinubu’s message comes amid growing calls for greater investment in youth education, skills development, entrepreneurship and employment opportunities as part of efforts to secure Nigeria’s economic and social future.
