Former President Goodluck Jonathan has commissioned 18 township roads covering 49.7 kilometres in Bauchi metropolis.
The projects, valued at about N58.7 billion, were delivered by the administration of Governor Bala Mohammed.
Jonathan also participated in the foundation laying for four recreational parks planned for the state capital.
He described the road projects as investments capable of improving mobility, commerce and access to public services.
The former president said reliable transport infrastructure was essential to sustainable development because it connects communities and creates economic opportunities.
Governor Mohammed said the roads linked residential neighbourhoods, commercial centres, schools and other public facilities.
He said the projects included durable pavement, drainage, culverts, road markings and solar powered street lighting on selected routes.
The governor stated that improved mobility and increased economic activity were already becoming visible around the completed roads.
He said his administration had set a target of delivering at least 5,000 kilometres of roads across the state and had completed about 3,000 kilometres since 2019.
Mohammed urged residents to protect the infrastructure and avoid activities capable of damaging public assets.
The Bauchi State Ministry of Works said it would continue monitoring projects to ensure compliance with approved engineering standards.
Traditional leaders at the event commended the administration’s infrastructure programme and pledged continued community support.
