Jeff Bezos Nears Deal to Acquire One-Third Stake in Liverpool

Amazon founder Jeff Bezos is reportedly close to reaching an agreement to acquire about a one-third stake in Premier League club Liverpool, according to multiple media reports.

The proposed investment would be made through a consortium that also includes Facebook co-founder Eduardo Saverin, with the group reportedly led by Amit Bhatia, the son-in-law of Indian steel magnate Lakshmi Mittal and a former shareholder in English Championship club Queens Park Rangers.

Sky News reported that Liverpool’s owners, Fenway Sports Group (FSG), could announce the deal as early as this week.

The proposed transaction would value Liverpool at approximately £4.4 billion ($5.9 billion), potentially making it one of the most valuable football club investment deals.

FSG, which acquired Liverpool in 2010, has explored external investment opportunities in recent years while maintaining control of the club.

A deal at the reported valuation would represent a substantial increase in Liverpool’s value during FSG’s ownership.

Neither Liverpool nor FSG had immediately commented on the reports.

Liverpool, who won the Premier League title in 2025, are currently undergoing a period of significant transition following the departure of manager Arne Slot and forward Mohamed Salah.

Michael Edwards, who played a key role in assembling the squad that ended Liverpool’s 30-year wait for an English league title in 2020, also left his position as FSG’s chief executive officer of football in July.

If completed, Bezos’ reported investment would make him one of the most prominent investors in English football, while allowing FSG to retain overall control of the club.
