Alternative Bank Promotes Productive Capital as New Model for Wealth Creation

The Alternative Bank has urged investors and policymakers to direct more capital toward productive sectors that create jobs, strengthen businesses and generate long term economic value.

The bank made the case at a Lagos forum attended by investors, business leaders and public officials.

Chairman Muhtar Bakare argued that capital should be measured by the productive activity it creates rather than the short term value extracted from an economy.

He said investments linked to enterprises, physical assets and productive systems could create income for workers, business for suppliers, tax revenue for government and sustainable returns for investors.

Lagos State Commissioner for Finance Abayomi Oluyomi, representing Governor Babajide Sanwo Olu, said government could help reduce investment risks by building infrastructure and maintaining credible policies.

He cited the Lagos rail system as an example of public infrastructure capable of lowering business costs and expanding markets.

The forum also examined green bonds, sukuk and other ethical finance instruments that connect investment directly to assets and measurable economic activity.

Former Lagos State Governor Babatunde Fashola urged financial institutions to favour investments capable of producing durable economic and social benefits.

Expert presentations covered ethical capital, African payment systems, asset tokenisation and Nigeria’s wider economic outlook.

The bank said non interest and shared risk financing could provide investors with alternatives that support real economic activity.

It pledged to continue developing financial models designed to promote inclusive and sustainable wealth creation across generations.
