Kebbi State Governor Nasir Idris has called on the Nigerian military to intensify operations against armed groups threatening communities across the state.
Idris made the appeal during an unannounced visit to troops stationed at a military camp in Yauri.
He praised the soldiers for their operations against banditry and assured them that the state government would continue providing support required to improve security.
The governor said responsibility for protecting lives and property should not be left entirely to the Federal Government, stressing that states must actively support security agencies.
He said restoring security was particularly important for farming communities where repeated attacks had forced residents away from their farmlands.
Idris urged the military to deploy its full professional capacity against criminal groups operating in the state.
He expressed confidence in the Armed Forces and pointed to Nigeria’s experience in international peacekeeping missions as evidence of the military’s capabilities.
The governor also thanked the Chief of Army Staff for deploying additional military personnel to Kebbi.
He said the deployment would reinforce existing operations and complement the activities of other security agencies.
Idris identified Yauri, Shanga and Ngaski as areas facing incursions from armed groups moving across neighboring Niger, Zamfara and Kwara states.
He assured troops that his administration would continue working with the Federal Government and security agencies to create safer communities and enable farmers to return to agricultural activities.
