Bauchi State Governor Bala Mohammed has directed security agencies to intensify joint operations against criminal groups and deny them access to forests, border communities and other areas used as hideouts.
The directive followed recent military operations in Alkaleri Local Government Area that the governor described as a major breakthrough against terrorist groups.
At a meeting of the State Security Council, Mohammed asked security agencies to replicate the successes recorded in Alkaleri, Ningi, Ganjuwa, Toro and other affected areas.
He called for increased patrols, stronger surveillance and coordinated ground operations to reduce kidnapping, banditry and infiltration.
The governor also warned traditional rulers against harbouring criminals, allocating land to suspicious persons or supporting illegal activities.
He said the state would continue to assist security agencies with logistics, technology, police facilities and other forms of support.
Mohammed praised the Army, Police, Department of State Services, Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, vigilante groups and other security personnel for their cooperation.
He said recent operations by troops of 3 Division and 33 Artillery Brigade had dislodged armed groups from Mansur Village and surrounding areas and enabled displaced residents to return home.
The governor also urged security agencies to remain professional and politically neutral as election activities increase.
