The Federal Government has described the South-East Regional Security Summit as an important step towards resolving insecurity through law enforcement, intelligence, community engagement and economic development.
Minister of Information and National Orientation Mohammed Idris spoke after the summit in Umuahia, Abia State.
The meeting brought together governors, security agencies, traditional rulers, youth representatives and community leaders.
Idris said the participation showed that security required the commitment of citizens and institutions, not government action alone.
He stated that President Bola Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda linked security with infrastructure, social inclusion and economic empowerment.
The minister also rejected claims that the South-East was being neglected.
He cited federal road projects across the region, the appointment of former Ebonyi State Governor David Umahi as Minister of Works and investments in health infrastructure.
Idris pointed to a major cancer treatment centre in Enugu and the planned delivery of 1,000 primary healthcare centers nationwide.
He said increased federal allocations had also given state governments greater capacity to address local development needs.
The minister declined to comment on the case of Nnamdi Kanu because the matter remained before the courts.
He said the decision to hold the security summit in the South-East demonstrated the government’s commitment to dialogue and coordination with the region.
