The Chief Medical Director of the Federal Teaching Hospital, Lokoja, Abdulrahman Shehu, has pledged to reposition the institution and improve the quality of healthcare services.

Shehu made the commitment during a meeting with members of the Correspondents Chapel of the Nigeria Union of Journalists in Kogi State.

He said the management had begun implementing measures to strengthen the hospital within a short period, with staff welfare placed at the centre of the reform agenda.

According to him, outstanding promotion examinations were recently conducted and successful employees had begun receiving the benefits of their new salary levels. He said regular promotion assessments would be used to motivate workers and improve performance.

Shehu added that the management would not operate from offices alone but would remain actively involved in addressing problems across the hospital. He urged staff members to take collective ownership of the institution and speak out when they observed practices that could undermine patient care.

The Chief Medical Director said Nigerian hospitals could provide standards comparable with facilities abroad if workers were properly supported and encouraged to take responsibility for institutional improvement.

He also requested a stronger partnership between the media and the hospital, saying responsible coverage could support public confidence and the institution’s development.
