The Accord Party has said a Court of Appeal judgment overturning a Federal High Court order that had sought to deregister it and four other political parties safeguards its participation in the August 15 Osun State governorship election.
National Chairman Maxwell Mgbudem alleged the original suit was intended to prevent Governor Ademola Adeleke from contesting the election, and said the appellate court’s intervention frustrated that plan, describing the ruling as a victory for democracy and the rule of law that restores confidence in Nigeria’s electoral and judicial systems. He said the judgment reaffirmed the constitutional rights of registered political parties to operate and participate in elections, arguing that Accord had met all statutory requirements for registration and had a track record of election victories presented before the court.
