Presidential candidate of the African Democratic Congress, Atiku Abubakar, has said conflicting testimony from the Office of the Accountant General and the Central Bank of Nigeria over the disputed Presidential Foreign Investment Promotion Council accounts has exposed a government caught in its own contradictions.

Atiku said one institution denied authorizing the opening of the disputed accounts and alleged forgery, while the central bank told the House of Representatives the accounts were opened on the Accountant General’s directive following due process, arguing that both accounts cannot simultaneously be true. He said when two of the country’s most sensitive financial authorities contradict each other publicly on the same transaction, it signals a serious credibility crisis that the president cannot continue to watch from the sidelines.

He called on President Tinubu to clarify which version he believes and to order a genuinely independent investigation, warning that continued delay would deepen public suspicion that protecting the administration’s image has taken priority over uncovering the truth. He called on the National Assembly to summon the Accountant General and the central bank governor to testify together under oath, arguing that the matter has become a referendum on the president’s integrity and competence.
