Gombe State Governor Muhammadu Inuwa Yahaya has inaugurated a 25 member reconciliation committee for the All Progressives Congress, tasked with healing internal divisions and positioning the party for a strong performance in the 2027 general elections.

The governor said the party’s target is not only to retain every elective position in the state but also to deliver at least one million votes for President Bola Tinubu, alongside victories for the party’s governorship candidate, all six National Assembly candidates and all 24 House of Assembly candidates.

Speaking at the inauguration in Gombe, Inuwa Yahaya appealed to members aggrieved by the outcomes of recent congresses, primaries and local government elections to set aside their grievances and embrace dialogue for the good of the party, acknowledging that while the exercises were largely successful, some results inevitably disappointed certain aspirants.

He said the committee, chaired by Deputy Governor Manassah Daniel Jatau, was established to engage aggrieved members through dialogue with a view to rebuilding trust and reinforcing party unity ahead of the 2027 polls, urging members to maintain confidentiality throughout the process to prevent sensitive information from being exploited by political opponents. He asked the committee to expand its membership if needed and to decentralise its work across the state’s three senatorial districts to speed up the process.

The governor expressed confidence in the committee, describing its members as experienced politicians, administrators and academics with proven integrity. Responding on behalf of the committee, Jatau thanked the governor for the responsibility and pledged that members would engage all stakeholders fairly to strengthen the party. State party chairman Mohammed Dantata Ndus commended the governor for constituting the committee and urged members to work to reunite the party ahead of the 2027 elections.
