Nigerian Afrobeats superstar Burna Boy and Colombian music icon Shakira have reunited ahead of their highly anticipated performance at the 2026 FIFA World Cup final halftime show, scheduled to hold on Sunday at MetLife Stadium in New Jersey, United States.
The reunion was revealed after Burna Boy, whose real name is Damini Ogulu, shared a video on his X account showing the two global music stars exchanging warm embraces and smiles during rehearsals for the historic event.
Accompanying the video, Burna Boy wrote: “Sunday Prep! @shakira See you at the @FIFAWorldCup Final! Dai dai, ikó, dale, allez, let’s go
The footage captured the pair greeting each other outside production trailers at the stadium as preparations intensified for the FIFA World Cup final.
Burna Boy and Shakira are expected to headline FIFA’s first-ever Super Bowl-style halftime show with a performance of Dai Dai, the official anthem of the 2026 FIFA World Cup. The duo previously performed the song during the tournament’s opening ceremony in Mexico City.
To accommodate the entertainment spectacle, FIFA is expected to extend the traditional halftime break to about 30 minutes. The interval will feature the usual match analysis alongside an 11-minute musical performance led by Burna Boy and Shakira.
The halftime show will also feature performances from international stars including BTS, Madonna, Justin Bieber, acclaimed conductor Gustavo Dudamel, the PS22 Chorus alongside Coldplay, while characters from Sesame Street and The Muppets are also scheduled to make appearances.
According to FIFA, the inaugural halftime show will also serve as a platform to promote global education initiatives for children.
The 2026 FIFA World Cup final will see defending champions Argentina face Spain at the MetLife Stadium, with millions of football fans worldwide expected to witness both the championship clash and the historic entertainment showcase.
