The Federal Government has suspended the proposed increase in registration fees for the 2027 West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE) and the National Examinations Council (NECO) examinations.

The decision was announced in a statement issued by the Federal Ministry of Education, which said the suspension would allow for a comprehensive review of the proposal and wider consultations with key stakeholders before any final decision is made.

According to the ministry, the move followed concerns and feedback from members of the public over the planned adjustment in examination fees.

The ministry stated that it would engage parents, school proprietors, examination bodies, and other relevant stakeholders to ensure that any future decision reflects the interests of all parties.

It added that revised examination fees, if necessary, would only be announced after the consultation process had been concluded.

The suspension comes amid widespread public reactions to reports of a proposed increase in examination fees for candidates sitting the 2027 WAEC and NECO examinations. The government said the review process is aimed at ensuring fairness, affordability, and sustainability in the administration of public examinations.
