United States President Donald Trump on Wednesday expressed optimism over ongoing indirect talks between the United States and Iran, describing recent negotiations in Doha as “very good” and saying efforts toward Iran’s denuclearisation were progressing positively.
Speaking to reporters before boarding the newly commissioned Air Force One aircraft for a trip to North Dakota, Trump said discussions between the two sides had advanced despite recent military tensions.
“As far as things are going, the denuclearization of Iran is moving along well. They’ve had very good meetings, and we’ll see,” the president said.
The talks are aimed at easing tensions between Washington and Tehran following recent exchanges of fire and broader regional security concerns.
Trump acknowledged the military pressure previously exerted by the United States but suggested diplomatic engagement was now producing encouraging results.
“We hit them very hard… but we’re getting along very well,” he said.
The latest round of indirect negotiations in Doha forms part of ongoing efforts to reduce hostilities and find a diplomatic path toward resolving longstanding disputes over Iran’s nuclear programme.
